Seen with Envy

A client was feeling envious.
As we all do from time to time.
So my envy SOS talk is on my mind.
Here it is.

Envy can be helpful!

The gift of envy
Is that it helps you know
What you really want.
Of all the wonderful things
Out in the world
This is the one that is tweaking you.
Why is that?

Envy feels yucky
But part of that
Is the resistance to it.
So the first step to dealing with envy
Is to welcome it.

Also it feels yucky because it can stir feelings of lack.
By letting yourself use it as a guide
You can shift into action.

Think of envy as something being done for you
Shown to you
Rather than something bad.
Try to stop judging yourself
For being envious.
Notice more.
Judge less.
More discernment.
Less beating yourself up.

Then work on understanding.
It’s something I want.
What part of it.
Be honest with yourself.
Is it the skill.
The story.
The look.
The vibe.
The message.
The financial success.
The fact that this person
Has somehow expressed something
That you have been trying to get at?

The word envy comes from a word
That means to see.
It’s come to mean
To look at with malice.
But it’s possible to really think about it
As seeing.
So much floats through
But we don’t see a lot of what we see.
This thing broke through the noise.
Why?!

If it’s possible
Accept the gift of envy as a guide.
Let yourself be inspired
By what you are envious of.

It’s funny to me that envy
Which feels energetically like stopping
Is associated with green
Which is the growth color.
(Ok it’s also the color of nausea ;)
But envy really can be
Well - a fertilizer.
Shit that helps you grow.

You have your own voice
And your own work
And your own path.
Let whatever you envy help you find it.
But you also exist in a constellation of other work.
Even aspirationally.
Create that constellation.
Put the thing you envy in it.

And then do all the work.
And then some.

Infinitely Yours,

Beth
