Bio

Beth Lapides is a twenty first century artist. A hyphenated hybrid with an eye toward higher consciousness. Technically she is a comedian, and the media in which she makes light are live, print, online and on screens. You could say she is an author, radio and TV personality, columnist and actress and you would not be wrong. She's also a respected teacher, an avid yoga student and a Type A free spirit: working hard to let the wind blow her where it will.

Beth is best known for founding, hosting and producing  Un-Cabaret, the legendary live show that led the 'alternative comedy' revolution. Nevertheless when strangers recognize her it is usually fro her brief but captivating appearance as the performance artist on "Sex and the City".

Beth's an original thinker and her columns, essays an opinions have appeared in and on Politically Incorrect, NPR's "All Things Considered", the Huffington Post, Los Angeles Times, Fit Yoga, Utne Reader, The Realist, LA Weekly, Premiere and freshyarn.com. She was the irreverently thoughtful self help correspondent for ABC Radio's Satellite Sisters and now writes a monthly column about yoga: "My Other Car Is A Yoga Mat"  which is syndicated in LA Yoga and Yoga Chicago magazine. Her first book: "DID I WAKE YOU? Haikus for Modern Living" was published in 2006 by Soft Skull Press.

Beth established herself as a host at the live Un-Cabaret alternative comedy show, bringing together top comedy talent in a format that required a lively guardian. She went on to host Un-Cab on Comedy Central as well as on Comedy World Radio where she also hosted the talk format daily Beth Lapides Experience. Additionally she hosts the Un-Cabaret podcast on audible.com, Say The Word at The Skirball Cultural Center and The Other Network Writers Room, an audio interview series with top TV comedy writer's and showrunners. Beth also hosted and co-executive produced a talk show pilot, The Couch, for MTV.

Beth likes to tell a story but she makes a good story too and has been featured on many TV & radio shows including The Today Show, The Treatment, This American Life, Dateline, E! True Hollywood Story, and Morning Edition.

Beth and producing and life partner Greg Miller teach writing, performing, creativity and living at The Comedian's Way (LA, NY, Tuscon). They've been teaching privately for over 10 years ad in addition have taught and/or lectured at UCLA Extension, Brown University, University of Iowa, Yoga Fit Convention, Humber College of the Arts, CalArts, the Skirball Center.

Beth created Say the Word, the first and longest-running of the new wave of storytelling shows (The Moth, Sit & Spin, Word Nerd, etc.), and The Other Network, a critically-acclaimed and wildly-popular festival of the greatest un-aired TV pilots ever made.

Beth is also an accomplished visual artist. Her urban primitive drawings, paintings and books have always been part of her solo performance work. The earliest pieces were seen in her East Village and Soho work in the 80's and are most recently in her current show: 100% Happy 88% of the Time. She has received numerous NEA awards and her work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Library, various downtown New York galleries and in 2004 she had a one-person show at Ghetto Gloss in Los Angeles. Her work is available for production rentals and has been seen on "Nip/Tuck", "My Wife and Kids" and in "Spiderman 3".
